Clean the lid piece by cutting away the pumpkin strands and seeds; save all of the seeds (see below). Use a long-handled spoon, clean the inside of the pumpkin, being careful to leave a thick pumpkin wall to ensure there are no punctures in the skin on the sides or the bottom.
When the pumpkin is clean, rinse the inside with cool water, checking for leaks in the skin. Fill the pumpkin with the warm punch and replace the lid to retain the heat. Using a ladle, serve it in ceramic mugs and garnish with cinnamon sticks.
